The characteristics of a good conversation question are : to ask a question that allows for an easy answer; don`t ask questions that could be interpreted as offensive; ask a question that can involve everyone and make people feel comfortable and not judged by their responses. People in general are more reluctant to open up if they feel their responses will be judged. What that means is you need to be aware of timing, tone and the state of the conversation when asking a question to keep it non-threatening.
There are conversation questions which allow you to get to know other`s character, while still allowing them to feel comfortable with the conversation. They are good to use for parties and gatherings while having fun, and while trying to get to know someone a little better.
This is not something you want to turn into an interrogation by pulling out your list of questions and just listening for the answers. Be familiar with the questions and just insert them into conversation.Listen to the answers and comment, add your own answers and ask related questions to keep the conversation flowing naturally. Most of all just have fun with it and enjoy the conversation.
Here are some interesting conversation questions that can help you while having a discussion : What would you do if your children were caught shoplifting? What would you do if your car got a flat tire on the freeway? If there were one celebrity that you could be the parent of, who would that be and why? If you could change one thing about your past, what would it be? If there were one person you could resurrect, who would that be and why? Is there a way to know when you’re in love? If you could change one major historical event, what would it be?There are different types of conversation questions. : situation questions like : Someone asks you a question you do not want to answer. What do you say? You need to borrow some money from a friend. What do you say? You broke your sister's favorite vase. What do you say? You forgot your mother's birthday. What do you say when you see her? What would you do if you could be invisible for one day?
Description questions : Describe something you could never give away. Describe a place you will never forget. Describe a memorable birthday celebration. Narration questions :Tell about one of your fondest childhood memories. Tell about something you made "from scratch." Tell about something you wish had never happened. Opinion questions: What is your opinion about a current politician? What is your opinion about fortune telling? What is your opinion about legalizing marijuana?
All these questions can really make a great conversation, you just have to be careful with the tone you are asking and always pay attention to what the other person is saying.
