Dates or meetings with new people are always awkward. The main reason is the lack of communication, that doesn`t come easy between two strangers. These conversation starters can save a date from being a total dissaster. Conversation starters are those questions or statements that can generate a complex answer and not a simple “yes” or “no”.When you want some conversation starters that work it is often best to use time proven conversation starters such as: the weather, local news, workplace changes, family happenings, sports results .
Here are some good examples of conversation starters that can be used in any occasion : first A genuine hello coupled with a smile can be equally as effective. A quick, “How are you today”? works too. To start a conversation you should comment on an item that you both share in your immediate surroundings, such as the long lineup you’re both waiting in. Sometimes a look is all that’s needed to break the ice. When faced with a person you find attractive, giving a 3 second smile can be just as good. You may be surprised when the object of your happiness starts a conversation with you, instead. A great topic for a conversation starter, makes the current events that interest you and maybe your partner. Also there is the option with the last movie watched. The point of this exercise is to create a backup of topics that you can draw upon on a moment’s notice to start a conversation that would also be of interest to someone else.
For having a great conversation here are some advices to keep in mind when the occasion comes: when you start talking to your partner, never say more than you have to. Don`t talk for too long because it can get boring ; always include your date in your story telling with questions like :what do you think or how about you ? Don’t focus on one topic for too long, and if your talk gravitates to another subject , let it! Nothing is worse than feeling like you are getting the third degree so don`t ask too many questions. Wait until you see that the other person is comfortable. Always be funny but do not exaggerate, just tell a funny story to break the ice. And the most important factor in keeping a good conversation going is to ask open ended questions. Open ended questions are questions that require more than a simple yes or no answer. Open ended questions allow people to elaborate and this creates conversation. You are drawing the person out and making them become part of a conversation.
The most important thing about starting a conversation is to be as natural and relaxed as possible. If you seem nervous or uncomfortable, it is likely that you will make the other person feel the same way, and that the conversation will fall flat. So, before you approach someone to begin a conversation, take a deep breath and make sure that you have something to talk about.
