Conversation Topics
The problem of what you are going to talk about, at a meeting or a date, can put you in a difficulty even if you know how to start a conversation and make it a good one. Conversation Topics are ideas that make more easy the communication between individuals of different languages and cultures. Here you can find suggestions for questions or activities that will enable you to engage in meaningful conversation and cultural exchange with partners. Some topics are inappropriate in some situations, and some are just plain boring.
Here are some conversation topics to keep the discussion alive : Relationships, family can be a very good topic. Talk about the importance of the family Compare living alone with living within the structure of a family. Men and women, the universal subject that can keep people talking for hours. In your opinion, do men get along better with other men, or do women get along better with other women? Friends and what does friendship mean to you? Ambitions : Talk about the most important goals in your life right now. Interests :talk about some of your interests, hobbies and favorite pastimes. Describe the kinds of things you like to read for pleasure.
There is also the topic about travels. A subject where you can ask the person where they’ve been; even if they have never left their home town, you can always ask where they want to go. Food can also be a good topic, be careful thought, so conversation doesn’t stray into someone going on and on about their diet, how they’re trying to lose weight, etc. That can take the conversation in a negative direction. Other topics : describing a person, shopping, clothes and fashion, money, celebrities, gossip, food & eating, meeting people, sports, marriage, children, education, books, computers, science and technology, annoying things.
So we have presented the most important conversation topics , but before ever starting to ask questions and to think of topics you should remember some tips. Before even getting to some interesting subject , a compliment would be perfect. Pay attention at the other person`s outfit and try to give an unique compliment. Tell your partner about yourself before you ask questions like : what`s your family like? Do you have any siblings? Where have you traveled, where did you spend your vacation. If the person with whom your having a meeting, or a date, sees that you have opened up then he/she surely will be more relaxed. You should always ask open ended questions, because they do not have a yes or no answer . Questions like : What would you do if you were late for an important appointment? What would you do if someone accused you of a crime you didn’t commit? Describe a place you go for recreation or exercise. Describe your childhood home. Tell about a time when you lied to your parents, boss, or teacher. Briefly tell about a movie you saw recently. What`s your opinion on cellular phones?
