Developing your conversation skills is a lovely investment in your future. By improving conversation skills you talk with confidence. Conversation skills is a quality that every big company nowadays wants. You need to have the ability to talk to almost any person, and with conversation skills you can attract friends ,business clients twice the rate as you would without such skills. Many people have a wrong conception about what conversation skills mean. A person who is very energetic, starts a conversation and it`s easy to talk to, does not mean he has conversation skills. These skills are gained harder than it looks.
The key to a good conversation is to listen , to understand and to ask questions related to the topic discussed. You can show your ideas, thoughts and opinions in a conversation, but the very best conversationalists seem to be low-key, easy-going, cheerful, and interested in the other person. They seem to be quite content to listen when other people are talking and they make their own contributions to the dialogue rather short and to the point. The key is to ask open ended questions, meaning questions that cannot be answered with “yes” or “no” and in this way the conversation has a certain fluidity, one question leads to another. Another tip on how to improve conversation skills is to nod, smile and agree or/not, to the person your having a conversation with. This will show that you are listening and that you are interested. You should also try not to interrupt while somebody is speaking.
Finding a topic that both you and your partner are interested in, is a lot of help, because in this way you talk about something you both like and this makes the conversation easier. The important thing in a conversation is to enjoy it. Everyone likes conversations with friends more than with others because the things you talk are things you both have in common and you enjoy the company.
In order to really improve your conversation skills you should be curious and always show interest in those you talk with. You can also give genuine compliments and real praise when the time comes. Giving and receiving compliments can lighten up your day. Asking better questions is a plus in every discussion. If you are more outgoing then you can ask some questions that are a little bit surprising or “edgy.” These are not meant to make the other person feel uncomfortable, but to stimulate and get a lively response instead of a routine response. “What’s the most exciting/challenging thing that’s happening with you at this time?” is a great example. As a conclusion to be a better conversationalist you have to pay attention to the tone of your voice, to your gestures and especially to what you are asking. Try to always smile and ask interesting questions. Don`t talk too much, give other the chance to do this, it will only make you look better.
